Soursop (Graviola) Drink

Soursop Drink — made from the extraordinary Graviola fruit (Annona muricata), called Eko in some Nigerian communities — is a creamy, uniquely flavoured fruit drink of remarkable tropical intensity. Soursop's distinctive flavour — simultaneously reminiscent of strawberry, pineapple, coconut and something entirely its own — creates a drink that is deeply refreshing and genuinely unlike any other fruit drink.

Soursop (Graviola) Drink, Nigerian cooking

Ingredients

  • 1 big ripe fresh soursop (graviola) fruit
  • 2 big glasses of cold water or cold coconut milk
  • 2 big big tablespoons of sugar or honey — soursop is naturally tart
  • A tiny pinch of ground nutmeg
  • A few ice cubes

Method

  1. 01

Preparing the Soursop. Cut the soursop in half. Using your hands and a spoon, scoop out all the white, creamy flesh. Remove and discard all the black seeds — they are not edible.

  2. 02

Blending. Place the soursop flesh in a blender with cold water or coconut milk, sugar or honey, nutmeg and ice cubes. Blend at high speed for 1 to 2 minutes until completely smooth and creamy.

  3. 03

Straining — Optional. For a smoother drink, strain through a fine sieve to remove any fibrous pieces. The natural creaminess of soursop means this drink is thick and luscious even without straining.

  4. 04

Serving. Pour into glasses over ice. The soursop drink should be a beautiful creamy-white colour. Serve immediately.
