This explains what Lounje stores about you, why, who else sees it, which cookies we set, and how to switch things off. We do not sell your personal data.
1. What we collect
What you give us at checkout:
- your email address — where your plan and your sign-in links are sent
- your WhatsApp number — where your weekly plan is sent
We do not ask for your name. Until you tell us otherwise, the name on your account is made from your email address.
What you tell Lounje as you use it:
- your food preferences — meal types, food styles and the traditions you want more of
- your weekly plan — the meals chosen for each day, and any swaps or reshuffles
- the day you would like your weekly plan to arrive
- ingredients you type into “Ask” when you want a match from what is in your kitchen
- if you turn on browser notifications, a notification token for that browser
What the service records automatically:
- when you signed in and last used Lounje, and how many times you have signed in
- your plan, subscription status and when it renews
- payment records — amount, date, status and reference — for the payments you make
- where you first came from — for example the advert or link that brought you, including any campaign tags and ad click identifiers in that link
- how the site is used — pages viewed and buttons tapped — through our analytics (section 5)
2. What we do not collect
Card details never reach Lounje. You pay on Paystack's own checkout. We store the outcome of a payment and the references Paystack gives us to renew your plan, never the card number, expiry or CVV.
There is no password. You sign in with a link we email to you, or with the link in your weekly WhatsApp message. Each link works once and expires.
The ingredients you type into “Ask” are matched against our own recipe library on our server. They are not sent to any third-party or AI service.
3. Why we use it
- To run the planner — choosing meals that fit your preferences and remembering your week
- To deliver your plan — sending your week by email, WhatsApp and, if you turn it on, browser notification
- To manage your account — sending sign-in links and keeping your subscription current
- To take payment — starting checkout, recording the result and renewing your plan
- To measure our advertising — knowing which adverts bring people who go on to pay
- To improve Lounje — seeing which parts of the site are used and where people get stuck
- To support you — answering questions when you contact us
- To keep Lounje working — diagnosing faults and preventing abuse
4. Messages we send you
- After you pay: a welcome email with your sign-in link, and a short text message (SMS) telling you to look for it. The text never contains a link.
- Every week: your plan by email and on WhatsApp, on the day you choose, in the evening Lagos time. If you have turned on notifications in a browser, that browser gets one as well.
- When you ask: a sign-in link by email, from the Log in page.
To stop weekly messages, reply to any weekly email, or message us on WhatsApp (+1 701 291 0040) or at support@lounje.ng, and say which channel you want stopped. Browser notifications can be switched off at any time in your browser's site settings. Messages about your account and payments (such as receipts) are still sent while your account is open.
5. Cookies and similar technology
Lounje sets or allows these cookies:
lounje_session— essential. Keeps you signed in. Http-only, sent only over HTTPS, and lasts up to 14 days or until you sign out.lounje_attr— records where you first arrived from (the advert, campaign tags or ad click identifier in the link you followed), so a payment can be credited to the advert that led to it. First visit wins. Lasts 90 days.- Meta Pixel —
_fbp,_fbc— set by Meta (Facebook and Instagram) to measure whether our adverts lead to sign-ups and payments. Meta receives the pages you visit and events such as starting checkout and paying. - TikTok Pixel —
_ttp,ttcsid— set by TikTok for the same purpose. When a checkout starts or a payment succeeds we also tell TikTok directly from our server, sending your email address and phone number in hashed (scrambled) form so it can be matched to a TikTok account without being readable. - PostHog —
ph_*— our product analytics. It records pages viewed and buttons tapped so we can see what works. It is sent through our own address (/ingest) and also keeps a copy of its identifier in your browser's local storage. When you are signed in, these events are linked to your account.
To opt out: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, use your browser's tracking protection or a content blocker, and manage advertising preferences in your Meta and TikTok account settings. Blocking lounje_session will stop you staying signed in; blocking the others does not affect how Lounje works for you.
6. Who else sees your data
We share only what each provider needs to do its job:
- Paystack — payment processing and monthly billing (your email address and payment)
- Google Firebase — signed-in sessions and browser notifications
- ZeptoMail — sending our emails
- Buddy Assist and Meta (WhatsApp) — sending your weekly plan on WhatsApp
- Africa's Talking — sending text messages
- Meta and TikTok — measuring our adverts, as described in section 5
- PostHog — product analytics, as described in section 5
- Vercel and MongoDB — hosting the app and storing your account
- Bunny and Backblaze — storing and delivering recipe photography
We do not sell your personal data. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your profile, preferences and saved plans. Payment and transaction records are kept longer where accounting and tax law requires it. Analytics and advertising providers keep data under their own retention policies.
8. Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, you can ask us to:
- show you a copy of the data we hold about you
- correct anything inaccurate
- delete your account and its data
- stop sending you marketing or weekly messages
- stop processing your data in certain circumstances
Contact us with any of these and we will respond within 30 days.
9. Security
Sign-in uses single-use links that expire, sessions use http-only cookies over HTTPS, and access to the database is restricted. No service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data and will tell you promptly if a breach affects you.
10. Children
Lounje is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make a meaningful change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change matters to you, tell you directly.
12. Contact
Questions, or want your data removed? Message us on WhatsApp (+1 701 291 0040) or email support@lounje.ng.
